Two Years with el Bandito

Today marks our second "Gotcha" Day for Bandit. Two years ago we tentatively walked into a Petsmart in New Jersey to meet Bandit and his foster parents. Not really knowing what to expect, we spotted a small black and white dog out of the corner of our eye. Justin had been nervous about getting a dog; he had never really had one as a pet and worried about the added responsibility. Well, Justin has a weakness for cute things, so after spending a couple minutes with Bandit, he said, "Yes."

And the past two years have been wonderful. This small, hyper-but-cuddly guy has wormed his way into our hearts. We've even redefined some words to apply them to Bandit-

Tiny: not just something small, but also something extremely cute and somewhat mischievous. Often used in sentences like, "He's being the tiniest puppy ever right now," or, "Look how tiny he is!"

And even though he's been an adult since we brought him home, we still call him puppy. For no other reason than he looks like one.

Another favorite nickname is Lump. Because those moments when he's not searching/ begging for food, or jumping all over the place looking for a small animal to hunt, or barking at whomever just came in the door, he's laying so completely still that you might think he's dead, exactly like a Lump. Variations on this name are Cuddle-lump and Lumpkin.

My plan for today was to walk over to the dogpark with him and then stop at a swanky pet store in Northern Liberties to get him a treat, but the weather has other plans. Maybe this weekend.
